Two more students have been inspired to join our 365 Day Practice Practice Club. Congratulations, James Amelang and Arvind Kalyan, on all your hard work last year!
We love spreading holiday cheer in December! All ages, from little ones to adults, played once again for the lovely residents of the senior assisted care facility, Emeritus, in Carmel Valley. Suzuki repertoire, Christmas, and Hanukah pieces were enjoyed by all.
Members of our local Suzuki association joined together for a beautiful sunny afternoon of music, games, food, and fun at Mission Bay Park. Lunch was provided for current (2013-2014) SMAC-SDB teacher/family members. Everyone brought instruments to play some of our favorite Suzuki pieces together. Prizes were given to winners of the games!
More SDSSM students than ever participated this year in the local Suzuki strings camp, held each summer at the beautiful campus of Point Loma Nazarene University.
Every year SDSSM applies and is selected to perform at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. Students look forward each year to playing the newest folk and jazz songs they have become advanced enough to learn. And the whole family enjoys the fun rides, games, exhibits, and Fair food.
It had been several years since our first fieldtrip to the Museum of Music Making, and they had made some fun changes in their tour since then, such as adding a drum circle at the end. On April 27th, our school enjoyed learning about other instruments and their history, such as harp, electric slide guitar, and drums. As you can see, it is very interactive there. Students and parents alike joined in on the fun!
For the first time in 14 years, the World Suzuki Conference was held in Matsumoto, Japan, the birthplace of the Suzuki Method. It also happened to coincide with the time that Ms. Marguerite, one of SDSSM's co-founders and dear friends, was living in Singapore. Ms. Elly decided it was too good of an opportunity to pass up, and went on an amazing trip to Suzuki mecca. An article about her travels can be found in the June 2013 newsletter on the website of San Diego's local Suzuki association.
As of April '13, another student joined our 365 Day Practice Practice Club. Congratulations, Elly Kim, on all your hard work!
